TUNKU TUN AMINAH, DENNIS MUHAMMAD PRONOUNCED AS HUSBAND AND WIFE

JOHOR BARU: In a ceremony steeped in Johor royal tradition,
Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Ibrahim and Dennis Muhammad
Abdullah were pronounced husband and wife after an ‘akad nikah’ (solemnisation

palace where the ‘Istiadat Menyarung Cincin’ (ring ceremony) was performed,
during which he placed the wedding ring onto Tunku Tun Aminah’s right ring
finger.
He also presented her a ‘mas kahwin’ or dowry of RM22.50.
The couple then paid their respects by kissing the hands of
both their respective parents, as well as their aunts and uncles in the main
lobby of the palace.
Before the ‘akad nikah’ ceremony, the families of the bride
and groom also exchanged ‘hantaran’ (dowry) comprising of trays laden with
gifts, which were carried into the hall by Johor Military Force personnel.
The gifts from the Johor Royal Family to the groom included
a copy of the Quran, a prayer mat, a gold ring, a set of traditional ‘Baju
Melayu Teluk Belanga’ and ‘sampin’, Sirih Junjung, a cake, the traditional
‘Halwa Maskat’ dish and ‘Bunga Rampai’.
Earlier in the day, during the engagement ceremony, former
State Secretary Datuk Ismail Karim, who is the foster father of Dennis
Muhammad, formally requested for permission from Sultan Ibrahim to begin the
betrothal event.
Following this, Dennis’s mother, Henriette, put an
engagement ring on Tunku Aminah’s right ring finger.
